Our Student Council recently paid tribute to our school’s much-loved and greatly missed staff member, Barbara Keena, who passed away in January.

A bench that holds a special inscription and a commemorative plaque were unveiled in a short ceremony in Barbara’s honour.

In attendance were Ms Marese Bell, former Principal, staff members, Student Council representatives, and, most especially, Barbara’s four nieces who are students in our school: Amy Corroon (2nd Year), Ciara Dolan (2nd Year), Sarah Corroon (5th Year), and Niamh Dolan (5th Year). Sarah and Niamh, together with Acting Principal, Ms Olivia Callaghan, unveiled the bench to the backdrop of beautiful instrumental music by students Ruth, Evelyn and Alison Keane.

Many thanks are extended to Ms Yvonne Doyle and the Student Council for organising this memorial, to Lir King and Anna Macken (Student Council members) and Sophie Hayes for reading, the Keane sisters for their music, and to Sr Anna for her prayer and reflection.

Heartfelt thanks are extended also to the students who contributed the words for the commemorative inscriptions detailed below – Ciara Dolan, Aoife Smith and Alice Mc Donnell.

BARBARA

A loving nature, an encouraging presence,

You enriched our lives with your caring essence.

Your laughter was infectious, your smile lit up the room,

You always gave a helping hand with anything you could do.

Rest awhile,

See her radiant smile,

Feel her guiding grace,

Here, in this special place.
