Bí Cineálta - "Be Kind" - is a national anti-bullying framework in Ireland for primary and post-primary schools, emphasising a child-rights-based, community-based approach to prevent and address bullying behaviour. The rationale is to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment by fostering kindness, empathy, and understanding, and by involving the whole school community in a partnership approach to address bullying and restore relationships.

Key Principles & Focus

Kindness and Respect:

The core of the framework is "Bí Cineálta," or "Be Kind," promoting a culture where kindness, empathy, and respect are central to the school ethos. This is very much in keeping with the inclusive and caring nature of the ethos of Loreto College, Mullingar.

Child-Rights-Based:

The procedures are founded on children's rights, ensuring that every child feels safe, supported, and included.

Community Partnership:

Schools are encouraged to develop clear strategies in collaboration with all members of the school community to prevent and address bullying effectively.

Restoration and Accountability:

Rather than solely focusing on blame, the approach aims to restore relationships after bullying behaviour, rebuilding trust and encouraging accountability.
